I almost forgot to post a blog about my Happy Quilt. The name of this patchwork quilt came about via sweet comments from friends on Instagram. I posted a photo of the quilt top a month ago
Inspiration for the design of the quilt came from Karen at Pieces of Contentment and Rita at Red Pepper Quilts. My quilt is lightweight with a flannelette fabric backing. Perfect for Autumn or Spring.
I used 81 different prints of quilting fabric including some organic cottons. White cotton fabric in between. I quilted wavy lines to hold the quilt top and back together. My first time trying free motion quilting. It's far from perfect. I have a lot to learn.
Enjoy the photos. . .
Happy Thursday!
It's almost the weekend
Hope you have a great weekend, Julia xx
Julia your Happy Quilt looks beautiful! Great idea to back it with flannelette, making it lightweight. I would have been tempted to add a layer of white fabric between the top and backing. Your quilting looks fine too. Have you only quilted on the white sections?
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen! I'm trying to use up my stash of fabric, without buying more. I barely put a dent in it. I quilted on the white sections and where there are 3 rows of printed fabric I have quilted the middle row. Have a beautiful day, Julia xx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with your quilting - enough for stability yet variety to provide interest too. I understand why you chose not to buy extra white as a middle layer only. Our stashes seem to hold more than we think....
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. You're so sweet! It is a very simple quilt compared to your beauties, and my recent Paperie quilt. I'm saving money for our trip to Japan later this year. So, no money for buying more wadding; yet! After decluttering our home, moving my craft items to another room, folding each piece of fabric.... I have so much fabric for future sewing projects. Julia xx
